Missouri CORE, a 12-county regional economic development entity located in Mid-Missouri, seeks an Executive Director to lead the organization. The Executive Director is responsible for planning, coordinating and conducting regional activities to enhance economic development in the region. Ideal candidate will have the ability to build coalitions and partnerships and to promote and market the region. Bachelor’s degree required. Competitive compensation package will be offered commensurate with experience.

Position Description
I. OBJECTIVES:
A. Provide vision and direction for economic development programs that will attract and retain business in a 12 county Mid-Missouri area.
B. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the Board of Directors, communities, universities, counties, Chambers of Commerce and the state to enhance economic development efforts.
C. Assist new, expanding and existing businesses in order to maintain and improve economic opportunities in the CORE member area.
D. Provide leadership to CORE members and affiliated organizations to enhance their working relationships and success.
II. REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:
A. Reports to: CORE Board of Directors
III. RESPONSIBILITIES AND AUTHORITIES:
A. Coordinate an overall community and economic development program for CORE.
B. Promote community and economic development with communities and provide support and/or assistance when appropriate.
C. Work with new and existing businesses, involving communities, government agencies and other organizations to the extent necessary.
D. Market the development of opportunities for attraction prospects in the CORE service area.
E. Communicate effectively with both the Board of Directors and externally at all levels to ensure the flow of information to CORE members.
F. Participate in appropriate marketing trips as approved by the Board of Directors.
G. Coordinate the preparation of marketing brochures and other materials necessary to assist in attracting and retaining economic development projects.
H. Attend and provide a leadership role in various advisory, businesses, educational, political and civic organizations in the CORE area.
IV. Relationships: Missouri Departments of Economic Development, Agriculture and Natural Resources, University of Missouri Extension, community and economic development professionals, regional planning commissions, Governors office, Senators, Representatives, mayors, county commissioners, prospects, businesses‑‑to coordinate efforts with business, industry, community programs and all other outside contacts necessary to enhance and move CORE projects forward.
V. Working Conditions: Numerous meetings, at various hours, many out of town. The individual responsible for this position must be able to evaluate basic bids and use computer programs such as Excel and Word to assist in analyzing projects. A large amount of time will be dedicated to the development and evaluation of potential projects. Additionally, Power Point presentations will need to be developed and presented to persuade input and promote CORE activities.
VI. Confidential Data: All prospect inquiries are kept on confidential basis; however, information is shared with CORE Board members when appropriate to best serve the needs of the client and CORE.
Position Specifications
EDUCATION: Graduate from an accredited college or university with a baccalaureate or advanced degree in marketing, business, economics or related field. Education and training in the profession of community/economic development is desirable.
EXPERIENCE: This position requires five to eight years experience in community and economic development or related field and having worked successfully with the public and private sectors. The ability to maintain excellent working relationships with people is essential.
JOB KNOWLEDGE: Thorough knowledge of economic development principles and practices. Knowledge of business assistance, federal and state programs, community development, corporate structures, goals and policies.
ABILITIES AND SKILLS: Public speaking, marketing, organizational, supervisory and negotiating skills, superior written and verbal communication abilities are all essential for this position.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Position requires considerable time out of the office, including out‑of‑state travel and some overnight travel and numerous evening meetings in the CORE member area.
